Was it a requirement that Civil War generals have epic facial hair? If so, let's take this back. Generals serve as leadership figures for modern forces, and frankly, seeing a clean-shaven guy in charge doesn't inspire confidence. Modern generals look more like senior management at Home Depot than the men who lead thousands into battle. This needs to change to instill confidence in the troops.
Of course, Ambrose Burnside's military career had some flaws, but that was mostly due to being promoted far beyond his abilities. Perhaps he would have inspired less confidence in his superiors if he had chopped off that respectable neighbor's nose in favor of a more modern, less inspiring look.

We're not sure where this guy is from, but based on his weird facial hair, lack of knitwear, and general flat appearance, we think it's safe to say he's probably British.
